Frequently Asked Questions
What are your fees?
Fees are $240/hour based on a 50 minute session. The cost of the sessions is the same regardless of format (i.e., in person or online).
What forms of payment do you accept?
Payments accepted are e-transfer to kcolburne@gmail.com, credit card, or cash due on the day of the appointment.
When are you available?
I am available to meet with you between 9:00 am and 2:00 pm, Monday to Friday in person at the downtown office, or online via zoom. Contact me to find a time that will work for you. There may be occasional availability outside of these times determined on a case to case basis.
Where is the office location?
Conveniently located in the heart of Calgary at Suite 307 Mount Royal Village, 1550-8th Street SW. Street parking is available around the building, as well as an underground parking lot behind the building accessed on 15th Ave. SW which is a one way street heading East. Online sessions are also available to parents via zoom.
How many sessions will be needed?
In our initial session, we will make a plan based on your needs. Some parents seek guidance proactively, prior to having any major issues in the family. Other families seek help after several months of struggling in their relationships with their children. The number of sessions and course of assessment/treatment will be tailored to each unique family situation, and decided upon together. Cognitive/learning assessments include an initial intake session with the parent(s), 1 to 3 sessions with the child depending on the type of assessment needed, followed by a feedback session with parents and a written report.
Are psychological services covered by insurance?
Psychological services are covered fully or partially covered by many extended health care benefits. Check with your insurance provider to obtain information about coverage for your family. Insurance companies will not be billed directly; you will be provided with invoices and receipts so that you can seek coverage from your insurance provider. Psychological services are considered health services when filing your yearly taxes.
How do I know if you are the right fit for what I am looking for?
The combination of my compassionate and caring approach with years of experience and belief in life long learning ensures that I offer you the best available assessment and treatment guided by professional best practices. I do not believe that children need to be "fixed" because I do not believe they are broken. I believe that given the right conditions, children can flourish, and I work with parents to help achieve a nurturing, responsive, and secure environment. I focus my work on toddlers up to the early elementary school years. If you are seeking help for a teen, are seeking adult therapy not related to parenting, or are not available to be involved in treatment, then I am not the right fit. Feel free to e-mail or call me with what you are looking for and I can let you know what I can provide given your unique situation.
